Brady's
inspiring story began May 5, 1999
and continues...
Dear Friends and Visitors to BKF web site,
We guess that if you ask most parents, they
would describe their child as being amazing, wonderful and the
best in the world. We are no exception. But to us, and to so many
other people who were blessed enough to have met our sweet Brady,
there was something more about him, something different and truly,
something special. Brady was able to touch so many lives and so
many hearts in such a short lifetime of three years. We know that
his spirit will live on through all of us.
Brady had quite the zest for life and was
blessed with the ability to communicate extremely well at an early
age. He was very expressive and loved to talk to anyone and everyone
anywhere we went. He loved to take walks around the neighborhood
with our dog, Sammy, just so he could see who was out and about.
You could always hear him yelling out at the top of his lungs
and with great enthusiasm the various neighbor's names.. "Hi
Brian", "Hi Craig" - everyone would just laugh
and get a big kick out of him.
He just adored other children and had the
best time playing with kids from playgroup, music class and the
neighborhood, especially Jacob, Ethan and his cousins Noah and
Shannyn. Most of the time he wanted to greet them by giving them
a big hug, but because he was so tall, he ended up putting them
in headlocks more often than not. He especially loved girls and
actually gave his first kiss to a surprised 4 year old at music
class one Saturday. We were shocked, but he seemed quite pleased
with himself - he walked away with the happiest little grin on
his face.
Brady loved being outdoors and being a part
of events. Parades, picnics, fireworks, road trips, overnight
camping, hayrides, carnivals, museums and zoos - he loved it all!
One of our favorite things was to go to local outdoor concerts
in the summertime - he would just love to dance and everyone would
just get the biggest kick out of watching him. He just had such
a way with people. There was so much we did with him, but still
so much left undone.
We struggle every day without him in our arms
and in our lives and try to imagine a future without him here
- it's just beyond hard. But we remember one of the kindest, most
touching things that one of our closest friends said about Brady.
She described his relationship with her quieter, shyer son and
felt that Brady brought out the best in her son. We truly believe
that Brady brought out the best in us as parents. We also feel
he brought out the best in all who were so blessed to meet him
and be around him.
We thank you all for your ongoing loving support
and for helping us keep Brady's amazing spirit alive through his
Foundation and through his annual event, "For the
Love of Brady".
With love,
Carolyn & Andy, Brady's parents
Brady Kohn. In September 2001,
two and a half year old Brady acquired an unknown hepatitis virus
that shut down his bone marrow and he developed aplastic anemia.
After unsuccessfully going through drug treatment, Brady underwent
a bone marrow transplant using umbilical cord stem cells saved
at the time of his own birth in 1999. Although signs of the transplant
were extremely promising, Brady experienced complications. We
lost this amazing life on March 28, 2002.

Donating
umbilical cord
blood is such a
simple and easy
thing to do; what
a wonderful way
to celebrate my
baby's birth.
I feel so honored
to promote this
life-saving gift of donated umbilical
cord blood.
